Fresh face of makeup looking 120% at 6am slowly evolves into an 'I am exhausted' face as the day goes on. Eyeliner smudged, concealer slipping, lipstick faded and running, foundation looking blotchy. A midday touch up could perhaps help to alleviate some of this.
Research shows that a whopping 67% of gals do their makeup on the go, be it a full face or a quick touch up. Fortunately for me, my makeup stays put until I take it off at the end of the day for the most part. When I need to touch up, it's usually nothing a piece of blotting paper can't fix. And on those rare occasions when it doesn't solve the problem, I resort to one or more of the following:
-Refresh your lipstick by taking it all off and applying a fresh dose. Never layer lipstick over what you already have on or it would just look heavy and caked and make lines more defined. Don't get me wrong, I've mixed lipstick to get a new shade or a different texture but I prime my lips first. Remember to use a lip brush or you'd be transferring color from one tube to the other.
-Bluff your foundation to smooth things like separation and cakeyness and blend in harsh lines that may have formed. Foundation tends to settle in the corners of the nose, make sure to bluff out that area too.
-Following the bluffing, apply a light layer of concealer under you eyes to keep things fresh.
-Follow up with a powder. I'm not a huge fan of Mac products anymore but I find Mac blot powder gets the job done without leaving one looking overdone.
-Creamy shadows tend to crease more than powder shadows. A quick sweep over the area with a brush takes care of the problem.
- A smeared eyeliner can be quite annoying. I smudge eye shadow or powder over my under eye liner and that seems to keep things in place. If a touch up is needed, the same technique works great.
-A fresh sweep of blush over your bluffed out foundation will add some warmth to your cheeks and voila, all is well in the state of Denmark!
-To reduce touchups to a bare minimum, use a good primer under your foundation. There are several great ones out there but my holy grail of primers remains the Tarte poreless mattifying primer.
PS: The use of ear phones instead of holding your phone up against your cheek helps to prevent smudged areas on your face and keeps your phone clean.
Army green has been enjoying a moment as the new black. It's all over main street and splattered all over the pages of fashion mags as the new way to achieve that tough yet chic look. There are endless ways to style this versatile hue.
I layered my floral appliqued zip up jacket over a black turtle neck sweater and a pair of distressed denim. A pom beanie, fingerless faux fur gloves and a pair of block heel ankle boots finished the look.

Thank you for stopping by, keep thinking the purple thoughts. Xx...
You look super awesome in this outfit, Idu:) xx
ReplyDeleteI am loving this casual look. That jacket is divine, especially paired with those boots. I have to admit I'm not someone who does make up on the run, purely because I can't get it right in my bathroom, imagine in my car hahahaha! Though I have touched up here and there. Not as much as before, my eyesight isn't the greatest and I can't get used to glasses 24/7 so I hardly wear them unless completely necessary. So whenever I look in the mirror my make up looks flawless. In actual fact is probably anything but. Ignorance is bliss hahahaha!

ReplyDeleteI love your faux fur gloves. They are a great way to spice up this chic street style outfit. I do like the combo of that army green jacket (with embroidery details?-even better!) with ripped jeans and heels. Such a fabulous styling altogether!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your make up on the go tips. I think you're absolutely right about the lipstick. It's better to wipe it off and apply it again then to layer it especially if our lips are dry...it will just create a messy look. I think creamy lipsticks are pretty awesome, as they feel very comfy on the lips.
These photographs are amazing btw...so playful and natural....You look so beautiful!

I use setting spray these days because I need to keep my makeup looking as fresh as possible for a full day work shift. It does't help that my skin is now combination, I can't believe I even have to buy blot papers!

What a great jacket Idu! Yes, blotting paper is awesome to have when on the go. It really absorbs any excess oils without disturbing your makeup.

I'm loving this outfit, that bomber jacket is so pretty and the perfect piece to transition into spring! I'm also loving those sunnies, too. You've shared some really great tips here, girl! My skin is SUPER oily, so I always need to touch up throughout the day. One thing I haven't been able to master is smudged mascara. I don't know if it's because my lids and tear duct area are really oily, but it always smudges under my eye and it's incredibly annoying. Have you ever experienced this and if so, what do you suggest? Thanks for sharing, girlie, and I hope you have a great weekend!

Hey doll! Hmm, I wear falsies and much as I love more drama, volume and length that I get with them, I typically skip mascara completely. Just so I can keep the falsies looking fresh (no clumps) and also reuse them. Some people don't but I totally reuse mine over and over. I digress but I'm assuming that using a waterproof mascara would alleviate the smudging under your eyes? And as far as oily lids, do you set your lid with a powder after you apply concealer? I blot the concealer dry, set my lid before I apply shadow and that keeps it matte all day. Let me know babe!
