"Unique and different is the next generation of beautiful"- Taylor Swift

Hello FI readers, welcome back!

It’s back to school week. That means crowded stores as backpacks and school supplies go flying off the shelves. For the young ones, rompers, jumpsuits, maxi dresses and off the shoulder dresses will be saved for evenings and weekends as uniforms and dress codes are embraced once again. And for us educators it’s back to walking into the classroom at 6:30 a.m. Where did Summer go? Have a great school year everyone.

Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair... ~Susan Polis Shutz

Welcome back FI readers!

Floral looks are classy, fresh, chic and feminine. They were a big hit as recently as 2010 and fast forward to 2015, this vintage /grandma inspired trend is still enjoying a moment in the fashion spotlight, a definite proof that everything comes back eventually. Shout out to all the hoarders in the house, hehe.

They are as lovely as they are refreshing. From high end designers to the lower end brands, flower power made it’s case along side ginghams at fashion weeks. Have a look at this Valentino (here) or at Chanel (here) and (here). You’d agree that these looks are phenomenal. From gowns (here) and (here) to separates like this gorgeous Alice and Olivia skirt (here) to lingerie (here), bathing suit (here) hair accessories (here), and shoes (here), fashion is in full bloom.

Much as flowers have always fascinated me because I’m in awe of nature and all its beauty, I am not a huge fan of floral clothing. But when a good friend of mine wore a floral print dress to a baptism last Sunday it looked so cute, screamed high summer and inspired me to go digging for one of the only two floral pieces in my closet and voila! A very casual yet chic everyday look. Florals are synonymous with Spring. The last time I wore this was over Easter and here I am wearing it again in the final full month of Summer. They are so fabulous and depending on the colors they are set on, subdued darks or cheerful lights, will take you right into Fall and beyond.

So what do you have blooming in your garden? Cute little designs or bold in your face patterns? How are you serving them? I served this gorgeous floral blazer as a main dish over a monochrome white look with a side dish of a 3D floral necklace. The appetizer was a blue cross body bag and blue pumps made for really great dessert.

If you’re like me then you're not a huge fan of this trend. For fear of looking like wall paper maybe? Then don’t go all hot and heavy / overboard with this. Forget fast and furious, and get your feet wet like I did by pairing them with solids. A floral full midi skirt paired with a solid top. A floral dress with a solid color blazer is such a girly and chic look and so is a floral skirt with a camisole and a denim crop vest. Floral shorts with a lace top, oh so dainty! Still not your cup of tea? How about a bag, or even just a hint of floral in the form of a patch pocket or heels?

Who are you taking your floral style cues from? Who is your sartorial muse for the floral trend? Will your garden keep blooming well into Fall, creating a cheery contrast to the warm Autumnal hues or will it wilt, tumble down and be done at the end of the season? I’d love to hear all about it, do spill please if you may.

"I created flower women with gentle shoulders and generous bosoms, with tiny waists like stems and skirts belling out like petals”. - Christian Dior

Welcome back FI readers!

I had a great week. No scratch that. I had a better than great week. You? You did too right? I heard you loud and clear, YES!

Hot Pink Please!!! How about today’s outfit? A coat dress. A statement coat dress with pretty hot pink feather details on the cuffs and collar and made out of light weight, textured, shiny fabric with a hint of quilting to it. This outfit needs no introduction as it pretty much speaks for itself. Paired with beautiful slingback sandals and an ornate gold bag. Bold. Stunning. Did someone say more? As in keep going? Alright. How about style? How about couture? How about charming? How about Parisian glamour? How about so Fashionably Idu?

There are probably one million and one reasons why I love a coat dress so! From the double breasted very professional looking ones to the single button closure, to the fitted and to the flayed but top most on the list you’d agree is the ability of a coat dress to double both as a dress and as a coat. Duh, the name gives that away right? Summer is the perfect time to wear your coat dress as a dress and show some skin albeit a little. Layering it as a coat over a fitted dress or a skirt would be perfect in the colder winter or mild spring days.

I wore this as a dress and in the near future hope to show how I’ll style it as a coat for winter street style. Somebody remind me please, hehe. If you’re thinking ummmm, I don’t know about that just because it’s pretty brightly colored I say hold your horses. Let's not forget that there’s never too much color when you set out to brighten those dark dreary winter days with a pop of very well deserved color.

Not sure if it’s just me but when I think coat dresses Diana the Princess of Wales comes to mind. Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t she wear a lot of those in the 90’s? And if she did then that must have helped project this style to even greater popularity, worn by millions of her fans and gals all over the world. Today we see the Duchess of Cambridge championing the coat dress cause from time to time as well. So it’s safe to say it’s also a preferred style with the royals. Dress code? Nah, not for Kate I don’t think.

As I walked out of my car in this dress, a teenager called out the loudest ever "You are killing the game, are you a model"? And this happens quite a bit. No I’m not young one I replied. I’m just documenting my style for my online magazine aka style/fashion blog. "Do you have your card"? Yes I do actually. Here’s a few for you and your friends. I was tickled pink and was literally tickled the rest of the time by the beautiful feathers on my coat dress that just so happen to be pink.

Dare I end this post with another quote that really speaks to me.

"I have eclectic taste and I love vintage style mixed with glamour and old world charm” - Sonam Kapoor

Huge thank you for all the lovely comments on my one year anniversary post. A lot of love and warmth. I am humbled and truly feel blessed to know each and everyone of you (clap emoji ). And to the entrants, one more week until reveal time. Yes, one more week so if you haven’t had a chance to enter... STOP! What is that I hear, "Tick Tock, Tick Tock". Sounds like the clock ticking away. Uh oh, yes it is! But guess what? You still have the gift of time, so go for it!
