Flattering Flares

Hey loves how was your week?
Another busy and even shorter post. Today I’m sharing my look to school on Friday Thursday the 13th when I had guests in my class. Ummm, not the 'byob’ and we’ll 'Netflix binge' kinda guests. I wish, but no. Kindergarten teachers from another school in my school district and from a Christian school in El Sobrante came in to observe me and my kiddos. So we had clip board carrying, note taking and dare I add applauding adults in the classroom. My teaching is very fast paced. I go hard and my kiddos are mostly readers, high and accomplished after only 8 weeks of school.

Last school year, my class had the highest scores of all the kinders in the district on the DIBELS test (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) and boy I felt like a proud mama. I’m never reluctant to share what I do and how I do it to get the brilliant results I get. Just not in Math, :))). That’s what teachers do, we learn from each other. A couple of my kiddos were a little showy on Thursday but it was altogether a great visit.

Chilly mornings are still giving way to beautiful warm days. In other words, the sun still shines, it’s still warm and I’m pretending it’s still summer. So I’m wearing one of the hottest trends from back in the Spring, everyone’s favorite retro pattern aka GINGHAM top with flare sleeves and a pair of blue flare jeans for a fresh take on a casual work/business look. Flattering Flares. By the way doesn’t gingham look great on the young, old, skinny, thick, just everyone. From runway to high street, gingham has been very visible.

Something about blue and green styled together is very exciting to me so I brought in green accessories in the belt and bag and they elevated this look together with the flattering flare sleeves of the shirt. Wait a minute, next time I style this shirt, I could do it with a hunter green skirt to make it even more Fall approved. What are your thoughts on that pairing?

  1. Wow congrats on producing a class with high ranking scores, I'm sure you'll achieve it again this year too. I'm also really loving this look, that shirt and denims are gorgeous together and the addition of the green takes it from farm chic to the streets of Paris!

  2. I love the proud talk of your school kids. It shows what makes you love your job ( by the way a few pointers on the excellence wouldn't be such a bad idea). Love the shirt, it's really beautiful.

  6. Congrats! That's quite an achievement, getting kids to learn so quickly. Literacy is important! My compliments on your class having the highest DIBELS test in the district. Kudos! I can totally understand why you feel like a proud mama- and you should feel that way. I think it is a brilliant idea to have teacher's observe each other classes, we all can learn that way. There are many methods that can be applied when teaching and it is always good to be knowledgable about them.

You look gorgeous in those flares. I'm very keen on flare jeans, they're an old flame of mine and just like Brigit Jones has a hard time forgetting her old flame so do I. Besides, I think that flares are very flattering, just like mermaid dresses (or flare dresses and peplum), they have a way of making a woman figure seem like a perfect hour glass.

That gingham shirt is also fantastic...White and blue gingham shirt is a great match for those dark blue jeans. Plus, I really like the green belt and green bag. I love the combo of green and blue...for some reason it always makes me think of mermaids. Maybe because green and blue is a colour I associate with seaside (blue for the sea and green for the pines).

Thank you for your lovely comment. My to-read list is growing with each day as well. There is this proverb that appetite comes with eating and I find it very true. The more I read, the more I feel like reading. Have a lovely Monday!

  14. I wish I could dress this fancy to my class like you. Ha!! Dealing with children with severe autistic and disabilities is way different. I've to roll on the floor and get itty-gritty sometimes to get them engaged and during intensive interaction periods. Very challenging, but rewarding, because I feel like I'm doing something good with my life. Is that right to say? Ha! Kudos to you, teacher. :)

  30. The teaching method here in Germany is way different than what i learnt back at home. But i also think that in the U.S.A it`s on another level. How amazing is it that your kiddos can read already in Kindergarten. This strikes me so much in a pleasant way knowing that i`m a kindergarten teacher as well. The system here is quite different. Wish i could get an opportunity to visit your school one day. I love your outfit hun! You never dissapoint:)

Observing my sister, a Uni Prof, and working for a large school district myself gives me a direct insight to educators' dedication & commitment to the academic achievement of their students. God bless you for all you do.

  89. As a parent of one of her former Kindergarten students, she is an absolutely amazing teacher. I am not surprised by the high scores of her class. I remember in the beginning of the year she told me that my child would be reading by Christmas break. Well, she topped that. My child was reading in 6 weeks and is still a great reader because of the tools she instilled. Now, this fashionista is always dressed to the 9's in and out of the classroom. Love her style! Keep up the great work in the classroom and on the runway!❤❤❤
