Statement skirts have been enjoying a moment in fashion and today I’m gushing about this fabulous preppy black, blue and neon orange color block pencil skirt by one of my favorite designers Roksanda whose background in architecture shows in her amazing structured and uniquely feminine designs. (ohkay now, that was one long a** sentence, haha). She has a loyal following in players like Michelle Obama, the Duchess of Cambridge and several Hollywood A listers like Rosario Dawson, Anne Hathaway. Her signature color block designs which typically boast of vibrant colors in very striking combinations and I once read that they are hand sewn by a seamstress in her native Belgrade. Ain’t that amazing!

Roksanda's passion for color primarily draws me to her brand. Understandably, aside from loving her collection with its characteristic structure, what attracted me to this skirt was the pop of neon orange. While I enjoy the general beauty of this piece, I interpreted the colors in different ways. That small patch of bright color in an otherwise dark piece. Translate that any which way but as I looked at it, the blue and black all of a sudden seemed to represent the darkness, the hopelessness of events in and around the world with the recent happenings in Paris and Nigeria, and orange the hope for world peace that we are hanging on to. And in terms of seasons, the dark colors could be these short, wet, windy and dark Fall/Winter days, while the orange reps Spring/Summer that lay ahead so chin up boys and gals, you'll be peeling off the layers again in no time, :))). Enough of my color analysis and philosophy already, hehe.

Feathers have gone mainstream in fashion. I love them in jewelry, in dresses and everything in between. They are an amazing addition and will glam up (for lack of a better word) your wardrobe. Hopefully they are gathered naturally during molting and in accordance with laid down rules and not plucked/retrieved with cruelty to birds and inflicting pain on them. Makes me wonder about the efficacy of feathers in fashion. Do you feather? Real or synthetic?

The feathers in this bolero styled in a different color here are flowy, light, caught every slight movement and floated around beautifully like waves in the wind.
