A Bouquet of Florals

The onset of Spring is usually characterized by the influx of bloggers loving up on iconic florals as they excitedly peel off the layers and the dark dreary colors of Winter. Thick coats and jackets as well as boots, gloves and scarves are moved to the back of the closet or to storage as the case may be. BREAKING NEWS: Showing skin is in again and florals are once again the ‘it print’. The rejected  forgotten print reclaims it’s role as the 'print of prints' and street style stars are rocking it in ways that will leave you well, green with envy! Are you low key loving up on florals or are you full blown living in florals?

How To Style
Have you noticed that designers will floral any and everything from accessories to clothing? Fortunately the fashion gods have not written a set of 'how to’s' on rocking this trend and if they did, then I missed the memo. So for me as I celebrate the return of fine weather, it’s 'whatever brings that girlish charm to the forefront’ and doesn't leave any box unchecked. H2T of same floral print or 'wall paper’ as I like to call it though, not so much. That may get people staring and maybe, just maybe not in such a good way, Ha!

Today’s Look
Floral print is a trend to look out for this season. How do you style yours? Did you get a 'how to memo' or do you just have fun with them? Today I'm showing a dress in a bold bloom print, a perfect choice to not only cheer me up but pull me out of my recent cloudy mood, finished with black heels, a tritone bag and red trench. I included photo number 4 for your giggling delight. (LOL)

Fun Fact
The origin of floral fabrics can be found in Asia where florals are an integral part of their culture. Did you know that? I honestly didn't.

The Tears Won’t Stop Flowing: His face and smile are forever etched on my mind.
I've been gone for a few weeks because of the reason I shared on my Instagram here. I’ve never been this shaken up and just couldn’t get myself to pose for pictures let alone write a post. You may not know this about me but even though I appear tough, I am totally a fragile and very emotional being, have always been and perhaps will always be. I cry at the drop of a hat literally, I kid you not.  When I was a kid, aside from being called 'Idu Nwanyioma' meaning 'Idu beautiful girl', crying was the other thing I was known for. I feel things very deeply especially when it involves the death of a young one. I had a semblance of closure in the form of a funeral and healing has begun but it’s going to be long and drawn out. My posts may be sporadic as I support my kids through this. And cry myself through this. Please bear with me.

Thanks a lot for the well wishes on Instagram. His family felt all the love. Life is fleeting, I hope that I become a better me with each passing day, to love like I’ve never loved, to forgive and hope to be forgiven. To laugh, to be more present. Cos it’s never that serious. I genuinely love ya’ll and thank you for always being there.

Thanks for all the love on this post here. Your thoughts on this look?

  3. You look lovely. Your dress is so lovely and ladylike. It reminds me of the beautiful dresses from the fifties(my favorite fashion decade).Sending love your way. I truly understand how difficult it is to keep up with the daily grind when dealing with loss and it is nothing wrong with feeling deeply and being able to display emotions. It is necessary for emotional health. 13. Dealing with the loss is never easy...I find it especially difficult to deal with it if I am not (for whatever reason) able to attend the funeral of the loved one that has passed away. Attending the funeral doesn't take the pain away, but it gives me a feeling of peace and closure. To this day, I still expect my uncle to come and greet me when I come to see my aunt. I think it is because I wasn't able to go to his funeral and hence on some level I never really accepted he is gone. Grieving is a process and we mustn't rush it....Losing a loved one leaves a scar that never heals completely...In such moments, I always find it comfortable to lean back on my family and loved ones. When we support each other through it, then it gets a bit easier, albeit it is never easy. I think it is important to spend time with the persons who were close with the person we lost. When we are all together, it is like that person is in a way still with us- and I think if those lost to us are watching, they will like it- the fact we're holding on to each other. Deep connections, friendship, love, support, family..those are the things that truly matter. Take the time you need to support your kids through this, it must be really hard on them as well.

When it comes to floral, I'm a big fan of them. I think I did know they originate from Asia...because of its rich history and all. That dress is so gorgeous and lady like...I really like the vintage cut. You look utterly beautiful and refined...very feminine and pretty. The photographs are lovely as well...The Spring is in the air.

  20. Omg, Idu, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I just read your Instagram post, I can't imagine how that must have felt receiving such horrible and terrifying news. My heart and deepest and most sincerest condolences go to you, your kids, and of course this young man's family. May he rest in peace and may those fond memories of him live on in all of you. On a lighter note, I love the floral dress you're wearing and I had no idea that the print originated from Asia, though when you think of it, it makes total sense. Thanks for sharing, beautiful, and I'll be keeping you all in my prayers.

I can understand why you would need a time out to process the loss as well as your sadness and shock. He will always be missed but I hope in time that it will hurt less for all those who who he shined his light on. Take care and hang in there Idu Nwanyioma. This look is gorgeous!

  25. Such a lovely return you have made, dear! I am a big fan of floral patterns and this one is especially lovely. And the bare shoulder adds such a sexy zing to the look. Gorgeous!!

Healing of spirit is so similar to healing of body, sadly too many people take one more seriously than the others. Some challenges in life are a bump on the knee that hobbles us a bit for a short time and then vanishes to be forgotten. And some wounds go so much deeper and leave scars to forever remind us of that painful time in our life. In any event, I suppose I identify the idea of a strong person differently than most. Being able to overcome and make it thru the tough stuff in life is part of being strong, but also and equally knowing when you alone are not enough to get yourself thru. Admitting you need the help and comfort of others or even the big Other, and then accepting that help, that is a strength all its own. I am guessing you have a wonderful balance of both. As for crying, tho I am still silly enough to try and hide it, I cry all the time too. I can see it coming most times and I tell myself not to, I try and distract myself, but I cannot hold it back. I just saw that beauty and the beast movie with emma Watson and I was all teared up at the end, sniffling and soaked cheeks. Part of mine is empathy. I feel emotions from others and even just the sight of true grief or happiness, something so powerful, will often bring me to tears.

As for florals, I don't wear them a lot. Most of them look dated on me, but I adore the bold version you are rocking here. Maybe I will try that.

It's always hard to lose someone, but it's good you are starting to return to the things that make you happy, and are able to get pleasure from blogging again. It's good to remember those we lost as we enjoy the life we have been given, and keep them close to our hearts as we do the things that we love.
