The Party Isn't Over

If this doesn’t make you the belle of the ball then nothing else would. A creation of my friend Dwight of Vindictive this gown checks every box for me and these couple images do it absolutely no justice.

I took space from social media and the blog the past couple weeks to spend some time with my kids before they all leave home again (miss me?) so this is my first post of 2017 and a really quick one showing what I wore to ‘The Big One’, a New Year’s eve event.
I appreciate all the love on my Christmas post here. And all the 'are you okay' messages and emails. I am in awe of your kindness.

As far as NYE traditions, I was not standing elbow to elbow with thousands watching the ball drop in Times Square New York, or eating lentils at midnight in Chile, offering flowers to Yemanja clad in white at the Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, or jumping into Lake Constance in Germany or even lip locked in Vegas as the count down to 2017 happened. I did the Latin American tradition of wearing something red in the form of an intimate piece. I’m sorry but there’s not a detail shot of that, ;).

2016 was a great great year. C’mon, we're are all still alive and that counts for something. I also had lots of personal challenges that carried over from ’15 (don't we all) but hey, I have learned to smile through the rain. My attitude is always 'It’s not that serious’. And honestly, it just never is, Ha! In lieu of a New Years resolution which is never kept beyond day three, I started writing a

...Letter to my Future Self
There's often a lot of talk regarding 'what to tell our young self'. What to tell our future self is not discussed quite as much. It all started with reflecting on the outgoing year 2016. A realization hit me and I wondered what I’d tell my future self. The more I thought of it, the more I toyed with the idea of writing myself. About life and family and health and love and relationships and friendships and trust and expectations and choices and betrayal. One thing I knew for sure was I wanted it to be written on very pretty paper, possibly scented or regular pretty paper doused with my current fave everyday fragrance Jo Malone Blue Agava and Cacao and tucked carefully into a equally pretty possibly purple envelope. I also wanted it hand written to add that personal touch.

And so it started. I am many pages into this and it’s getting really interesting. I look forward to picking up my laptop pen in the evenings. Have you ever given any thought to what you’d want to tell your future self? And postmarking yourself a letter?

I’m signing off with a poem my daughter shared with me.

Happy New Year my friends!
Any resolutions? Care to share?

  1. You are truly beautiful inside and out Idu. I love the poem and especially the fact that your daughter shared it with you since it makes it all that more special in a way. Love your gown, it's magical. I have many goals in my head for the New Year, my number one is my health/fitness. I want to be better about my eating and fitness habits for sure. So I am starting to workout more regularly and making better food choices. I am also asking friends to join along because I realize I love it when someone works with me as a team effort. It helps me stay motivated when I am held accountable to show up and do the work. Although in the end it is myself that I should show up for, but any little push helps. How your New Year is looking bright!

  4. Idu, of course I missed you... I figured you were spending time with your family xox

I am loving your dress... I love gold and this one is gorgeous and intricate... you look amazing xox

The poem is lovely, I have written a post on what I would tell my 15 year old self, a very big year in my life... I think writing one for my future self is pretty cool... I should do that and handwritten too, I would have to take my time as I lost my good penmanship over time using a computer.

I hope and wish a wonderful 2017 for you and your family, much love and hugs from me xox

  5. YOU DO ABSOLUTELY LOOK STUNNING. YOU GOT MY IDEA OF WHAT A LADY SHOULD LOOK LIKE EVERYDAY, EVERYWHERE. FOR ME THE YEAR 2016, WAS A YEAR OF DISCOVERY FOR ME AND A LOT OF MEDITATION AND LIKE YOU SAID A LETTER TO MY FUTURE SELF BUT I SAY IT TO MYSELF MORE NOW AND THAT IS TO THINK MORE OF OTHERS, TO BE LOT MORE GENEROUS IN GIVING ESPECIALLY TO THE LESS PRIVILEGED, DRAW CLOSER TO GOD MORE THAN EVER COS DARLING THESE ARE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT AND VALUE DRIVEN THAN ANYTHING I CAN HOPE FOR. HAPPY NEW YEAR SWEET CAKES

  7. That poem your daughter shared with you is both touching and inspiring....beautiful and wise words! I also love your idea of writing the letter to your future self. It is our future self that we need to coorporate with, right? Our future self is like a coworker or a boss we need to understand so that we could work together towards a common goal. Those changes that really matter are gradual ones. Sometimes little choices make a lot of difference. Something we are capable of things we don't even dream of. Often we're the ones holding ourselves down, we're the ones that are making things difficult for a future our future self. So, I say yeeee for your letter to your future self. It is such a brilliant idea, it really is.

I love how you're always sending a positive message. I don't think that 2016 was terrible, I just think it was a year when some issues became visible, when problems with international politics surfaced...but if we are to solve problems, we have to be able to see them, so perhaps it is for the better. In any case, no point in crying over spilled milk, we need to build our future on every day basis.

And you're certainly always there to inspire us with your fabulous style. That golden dress was worth the wait- I totally understand why you stayed off media for a while....and you came back in style. You look absolutely gorgeous in that golden dress. A royal beauty!!!!!!!!

  25. Fantastic perspective and ideas. I hope you infect everyone in your general area and beyond with them. This is the pandemic we need, the pandemic of peace and contentment. This too shall pass... As for your gorgeous gown, that's a big WOW!!! All the detail work on it and then those gauzy parts, especially on the sides of your beautiful breasts. That was such a wonderful balance of alluring and arousing. Bet you caused a few accidents in that one :) Oh, and about that red, intimate item...imagining that added to those gauzy bits was more than enough to bring me some amazing pleasure! So fun to be teased ;)

However its the way we choose to approach them which sets us apart from the rest. If you have your health, you have everything. As you said, if you're breathing and alive then there's always a chance to make at least one thing right that day. Keep posting these inspirational posts and being a super fabulous ladyboss!
