Body Conscious Style

I legit love dresses that celebrate a woman's bod and curves aka body con dresses. They are so flattering (yes they do amazing things for a gal's figure) and they're so fun. Lately, the market has been saturated with a slew of ‘wannabe' bandage dresses that don’t hold things in quite as nice or suck you in (for lack of a better word) no thanks to the flimsy fabrics embraced for mass production and maximum profit. Some of them make the already thin line between sexy and trashy a tad more obvious.
Hey screw that, I rock those too, paired with heels and huge doses of confidence.
Hello Vegas nights!

This trend championed by designer Herve Leger prevailed in the 90's and has stood the test of time. So much so it should probably be considered a staple and no longer a trend. They are so effing hot and I am a fan of this edgy style. Especially of this one with fanned out sleeves, a deep v neck and a partial peplum. The best part was I could still eat and God knows I love my food.
And I could still breath, Ha!

Do you love bandage dresses? Or do you think they are so 5 minutes ago? Did you rock them back when they had a huge presence and were almost overdone? I have quite a few and plan to keep wearing them.

I paired this iconic bandage dress with open toe sandals that didn’t quite hold up in the comfort department. So much for picking out heels low enough to stomp around in. A peach blazer warded off a mild chill while visiting the Golden Gate Park Conservatory of Flowers with a friend and and and I just had to show my pixie some love. Gosh I missed it! I love the whole long hair thing too but this is my signature.

Happy weekend folks!
The first and second weeks of school have me so exhausted still. It's all I can do to to stay up till 7pm each day. I’m loving my kiddos though, all 26 of them. We've been focusing on activities that foster cohesion as we build our classroom community so we can have a fun year of learning. Some are very enthusiastic about school, others not so much.
Criers and runners are real y'all, LOL. #iteachk

  4. I love anything that celebrates a womans body, but I don't own any bandage dresses myself. I prefer wrap dresses that saw me through two pregnancies.

But yes, I love bondage dresses and you styled your dress perfectly! In fact it looks like it is especially made for you <3 Simply amazing! Hopefully this new week will be not as exhausting than the last 2 weeks ...

  17. The start of the school year is always a bit stressful but I think deep down we all look forward to it because learning is a wonderful thing and we should always celebrate education. I'm glad to hear you're loving your kids and you're working on class building projects. That sounds like fun! Today kids spend so much time watching TV, playing videogames and etc. that the only social interaction they have is in kindergarden, preschool or school. That places even greater responsibility on the teacher! Times change...back when I was a kid, we would spend entire days playing outside with other kids, it was just understood that all the kids from the neighbourhood would play together in large groups...different times! but every time has its advantages and disadvantages.

I absolutely love that bodycon dress on you. It has such a fabulous print...and the ruffless make it more fashion forward and unique. The sleeves are a nice touch too. You look fantastic!!!!!!

I hope you get some rest this weekend. I managed to sneak out to the mountains this past weekend and the fresh air did wonders for me:)

  18. I only liked bandage dresses when they first came out(late 80's -90's?). I love your dress! That ruffle in the front, color & print look so good Idu.

But if you are conscious of your body type, then you sould know what works best for you! Wishing you so much luck with your kiddos. I`m also experiencing all sorts of crying and whining with my small ones. I`m luck to have nine though :)

  68. Looking gorgeous as ever Idu! <3 I adore bandage dresses but those by HL only these days. There's such an influx of inferiors out there that definitely cheapen this style of dress sadly. Which is a shame. Trends do get butchered every season but I always felt the bandage one was a massacre! I'm always amazed at how many people wear these bad "knock-offs". Unless you've got the body of a prepubescent boy they just don't seem to flatter. At least in my opinion. Not like HL. Those dresses are like magic. I love your dress, it just screams of summer days.

  82. oh my goodness, when you wear a real herve leger dress, you can't even begin to want the cheap mass manufactured ones. Those dresses really suck you in and give your body shape - love herve leger. You look amazing in this one. while I think the look had a bit of a revival a little bit ago, I think it has long ago transitioned to being a classic look. And at the right event, can look just right. But not on the teeny boppa wannabees at the club, they do look trashy.
