2016 is most def off to a great start but do you realize we’re already down to the last week of January? Crazy stuff!
So chin up lovelies, Summer will be here soon enough. While we wait, lets black. And ummm, look totally head turning. You want to kick your full proof black look up a notch? Pile on the accessories. Cinch that waist and top it all off with statement cage boots for a very bold touch. Gosh you’d be hard pressed to find a better look regardless of how bright...

...and you thought black was your typical wiggle into it and run out the door on those days where we gals say ‘I have nothing to wear’ while staring into a closet thats about to collapse under the weight of clothes. Sounds like you right? hehe. Me too! So it was vest meet dress, another piece from the haul I gushed about here.

A pair of cage boots styled previously (here) a fun and cheeky clutch that will keep the conversation going until summer and mirrored sunnies pulled it all together. Such fun and unexpected accessories!
Do you love?

Try as I might, I couldn’t pass up a shoot opp. in front of the dark cherry wood door and the pedestrian bridge, a treasure hidden in the woods. Very nicely tucked away until I discovered it, :))).

Your thoughts?

The Portrait of a (Very Stylish) Lady

Saturday, January 2, 2016

I shoulda coulda woulda worn a sequined outfit with crystalized tights that screamed ‘Yes Please’  to this new year's eve event and afterwards to watch fireworks outdoors at the SF Embarcadero. My daughter said 'over the top mom', ‘who cares, I was born to wear this’ I retorted jokingly. I dressed up in the sheer sparkle and glam dress, stepped out and the crisp temps said 'no uh'.

Stepping Into 2016

Saturday, November 14, 2015

Well hello darlings, you are here and I appreciate that.
Welcome Back!
After exactly six months of unending buzz, and all the hype lately, thanks to the epic promotion (even I was sucked into using hashtag Balmainnation :-0), the highly anticipated capsule collection, the baby parented by Balmain and H&M was dropped on Nov. 5th in select H&M stores. Some pieces from this collection had nothing to do with subtlety or minimalism. Over the top comes to mind, so does 70’s flair and opulence.

The Jist
I drank a sh*t load of caffeine and waited up till 5am when the collection dropped online and in stores. Oops, website crashed and the error message about a lot of visitors on the site kept popping up. I refreshed as frantically as possible, ended up saying f*ck the site, moved on to plan B which was to pick my friend up from around the corner and head out to the store. The line of people that camped out all night wrapped almost around the big city building on Powell street San Francisco that houses the brand.

Holy cow! It didn’t matter if they were all reseller gangs or folks shopping for themselves, it was time for plan C. We headed off to Westfield mall two blocks away and were greeted by a shorter line. Colored bands were handed out and the color you got determined what time you could go in and shop. I applaud the brand for great organization, letting shoppers in 15 at a time and allowing each group 20 minutes to shop. And oh, you could only buy 2 pieces of each item. We enlisted the services of a shopper that was number 2 in line and headed out to get out caffeine fix. She delivered, and I’ll be using her again in the future. Boy was that a smart move, the first group that went in cleaned out the collection!

The Look
I had obsessed over this jacket like I said in my review here and I'm glad to have snagged one before it was completely gone. The rack that held them was picked clean in no time, I kid you not! Today I’m showing how I styled it as an anchor with very simplistic supporting pieces. I stayed away from thigh high boots cos that seemed to be the "default" way to style this piece following in the footsteps of the models in the campaign. This heavily embellished piece needed no introduction. I balanced out the trendy jacket with classic solid black high waisted shorts and a simple lace bandeau for a neutralizing effect. I even kicked heels to the curb (which I rarely do) as I was determined not to have any other piece competing with the star of the look aka this beautiful beaded velvet jacket - BBVJ, which btw is still an H&M piece regardless, hehe. I look forward to styling it differently soon. Pops of color here and there maybe, we'll see.

Then What?
Like I read in one mag and I forget which one, the worlds of street wear, fast fashion and luxury are now almost indistinguishable. I nodded my head in agreement. These fresh out of the oven pieces look nothing different that the luxe versions from the House of Balmain. I foresee everyday street pieces being elevated to higher levels by the fashion elite and street style stars sporting pieces that would normally only be on runways. Like Coco Chanel rightly said, "Everyday is a Fashion show and the world is the runway”.

The Verdict
One thing I can say for sure is that it was another successful H&M collaboration. H&M has collaborated with fashion/style icons from Karl Lagerfield in 2004, Versace in 2011 to Alexander Wang in 2014, Balmain in 2015, who is it going to be in 2016, 2017, 2018 and beyond? Any predictions? Any one in particular you’d like to see offer those enticing iterations/prices to their fans?

The Dream
I’d love to see <<< DRUM ROLL >>> : Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, Krikor Jabotian, Valentin Yudashkin, Alexander McQueen, Fausto Puglisi in that order. They all have one thing in common: unique, over the top, jaw dropping, so up my alley.

High Fashion on High Street

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Happy Veterans Day style lovers!
Where were you on the morning of November 5th? Did you witness that craziness all for the Balmain  x H&M capsule collection?  I was coveting literally everything (of course) and had my list ready to go and waiting for 5am pacific time. Then boom, the H&M web site crashed as soon as the collection dropped.

(Ding Dong: H&M should have seen this coming, a bigger server might have averted this problem I think)

The rest is history and I promise to share the details on another post but yours truly Fashionably Idu snagged a few pieces from the collection (yay, after all, some people camped out all night and ended up with plain black bandeaus - screwed!) and today I’m reviewing one of the few most coveted pieces in the collection, the beaded velvet jacket. This jacket in all it’s pearly glory screams opulence. It’s completely covered in not just pearls but very intricate stitching. I did predict in my post here where I whet your appetite for all things #BalmainNation that these pieces won’t be living on shelves for a long time. Well, I hate to say it but I told you so (in my Larry Birkhead voice).

This baby sold out world wide in less than one hour. Let that sink in for a minute 60..59..58..57….....5..4..3..2..1. Say it again? Ok roll your ears out, here goes: This stunning jacket was gone from every shelf in every H&M store that carried the collection within one hour. Crazy init??

It’s siblings aka all the other pieces in the collection also sold out but this was one of the first pieces to go. And oh, nothing from the collection will be restocked. Only place you can find it now is on ebay at triple or quadruple the price.

This heavy hitter is very heavily embellished like I said and weighs a whopping five pounds plus. The detailing is unbelievable and makes me wonder about production time.

The jacket is double breasted and adorned with shoulder pads that add a seventies flair and boasts zippers on sleeves for an added flair, :)).

Pros
Thick enough to keep the chilly temps out
Aesthetically very appealing
Affordable compared to a similar piece at the House of Balmain
Looks no different than luxe pieces from recent Balmain collections
Very well made
It's versatile and can be worn by itself, over pants/skirts
As a staple, it will elevate and add an oomph to the most basic of looks
Embellished outer wear is in trend
Cons
Very heavy no thanks to all the bead work
Steep pricing ($549) compared to other H&M pieces

Did you join the Balmain Nation or did you snob the collection?

Enjoy the rest of your week, Xo.

Review of the Balmain x H&M Beaded Velvet Jacket

Wednesday, October 21, 2015

The countdown is on until this collection hits stores come November 5th. Whenever there's a guest designer at a brand, long lines and a possible campout of style enthusiasts are to be expected. This was the case as recently as 2014 when Alexander Wang did a collab with the H&M brand. Oh the frenzy of it all!

This collection though! Fashionistas all over have been swooning over this ever since Kendall Jenner wore a beaded jacket from the collection to the Billboard awards held in Vegas back in May. Wait a minute!!! Whatever happened to 'what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas'? Suffice it to say that not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

House of Balmain under creative director Olivier Rousteing is known for their high ticket run way pieces. Just the thought of making this brand accessible to all, a collection for the street market, the richness and glamor still intact is amazing.

What are you loving from this collection and what have you added to your shopping list? Are you ready to camp out or will you avoid long lines and totally snob this collection. This is real guys and I have a feeling these pieces will sell out fast. So hop on it if you may, :)).

Thanks for stopping by, Xo..
