Well Hello World!
It feels like 24 hours ain't cutting it anymore. I need at least 6 extra hours in a day. Can that be arranged? Is anyone else feeling this way? It's assessment and progress report time at work and I am pooped. I had zero time to write and for some reason my scheduled posts didn't go up. Tech is so not one of my strong points. My twins also had a birthday on the 6th so yeah, life was busy last week. But I'm here and it's always nice to see you back. And hey, it may not be a bad idea to post on Mondays from now on.

Today's post will probably be the briefest I've written for obvious reasons. But its a peplum dress designed by and sent to me from my friend Dwight of Vindictive whose designs I've styled here, here, here and here to mention a few. Speaking of peplum, don't we all love this non fading trend? Oh c'mon, you know you love it!

With all the hemline options from minis and high lows to midis and maxis, I like to say midis are my favorite and another reason I fell in love with this semi sheer dress. I don't know about you but any thing peplum sure gives me life. It's always love at first sight. When placed on the waist just like in this dress, it gives an illusion of a narrow waist. Hallelujah to that!

Did you know peplum has been around since the 1850s when they made their debut on corset tops, skirts and jackets too? The standout detail of an otherwise simple piece of clothing, I say this resurgent trend has stood the test of time and is definitely here to stay.

And how is Fall coming along where you live? Even though these pictures were taken indoors in my home, the weather is still somewhat mild. But I'm excited for long rainy nights in the near future.

Your thoughts?

Peplum, The Trend That Isn't Fading

Saturday, April 16, 2016

Well hello darlings! Let me start by apologizing for my long absence. Did you miss me and my musings? I did miss you! On the flip side I had the vacation of a lifetime in the beautiful Greek Island of Santorini. Have you been? I didn’t realize a lot of folks had this island on their bucket list. We finished off our getaway with fun adventures in Istanbul. Great break from posing in front of the camera I must say.

I ate and I ate some more, shame on me (hands over eyes emoji). I tried new dishes including an octopus which my students haven’t stopped “ewwing" about even after I told them it tasted just like chicken. Popeyes chicken in Istanbul though, who knew? Of course we passed! LOL. I especially miss Greek yogurt with honey, breakfast served on the balcony with unobstructed panoramic views of the deep azul Aegean sea and Greek salad which I couldn't get enough of. Lovely as the stairs leading down to our cave hotel room was, I do not miss that. (Video on the gram @fashionably_idu).

Gosh the sunset was everything. Juanetta and I had the whole boat to ourselves on a 5 hour private sunset diner cruise and now I get what all the buzz about the Oia sunset is about. It was spectacular. We met Shosta, the 65 year old and only person that lives at the foot of the volcano and even took selfies with him. He told us some wild tales, lol. We each got to skipper (not sure of the right nautical term) the boat and that was so fun.

Oh and we partied like crazy! Had to experience the night life (yes teachers do have mad spring break fun too, duh!) at the couple hot spots in town (Enigma night club, 2 brothers bar / night club) and boy do we have stories to tell about those outings. Good ones I promise, ;). We managed to make it back to the hotel about 4a:m each morning and a lady at the hotel described us as being like 2 teenagers full of life and bubbly on end.

Leaving was hard but I left my heart in San Francisco (in my Tony Bennett voice) so I’m back home to my niche, to the little cable cars and painted ladies, to the ‘YAY’ area, where I belong. If you follow me on Instagram you should have seen just a couple posts since I’m not the kind that blows up people’s feeds, hehe.

FI is no travel blog but I may share some things that grabbed my attention in upcoming posts and others will live in my phone for ever and ever and ever and ever just for my viewing pleasure on days when I need extra doses of laughter. Sorry, :(.

Wait! I have an idea - We should all go back!!! Ingenious huh?

This Spring we’re all about maxi dresses and holy cow this one deserves it’s own wind machine. Unfortunately I shot indoors in my home which is what I’ve done a lot lately since I’m so tired of scouting for locations, call me lazy. The neon green bustier top ends in a billowing full circle luxurious skirt that made for such an easy breezy and comfy fit. I can’t think of a gal that won’t look stunning in this. The best kept secret is the hidden pockets that I realized last minute existed and couldn’t get my hands out of. Diamonds Pockets are truly a girls best friend. Crafted for me by you guessed it, my friend Dwight who does no wrong in my book. Dude’s got skills! Gotta give it to him.
This elegant and charming maxi dress with a bold black and white print can be dressed down but I chose to dress it up with gold accessories.

The star of this look is the beautiful statement necklace specially made for me by Abi Dol of Haute Beads, a Canada based jeweler. Made out of brown and gold crystals with matching ear rings, this is no doubt is a stunning piece. Their web site is easy to navigate and boasts all kinds of stunning pieces from pearls and crystals to coral sets. They offer wholesale services, take custom orders and also cater to men's needs. Check out their website or Instagram for some drool worthy pieces and thank me later now.

I’m obviously still battling jet lag so kindly forgive any typos and missed edits, I’ll be more alert soon.

Neon Green for the Win

Hello darlings, it's always great to have you back! Thanks for reading and for all the love you sprinkle. My week was phenomenal. Let's just say I am in a good place. I smile. Why not? The weather is still great, I'm still wearing brights and holding on tight to Summer, :))). How was your week?

When minis aren't cutting it for you with or without the most gorgeous of stompers and maxis just won't do no matter how fluid and amazing they are, it might be the perfect time for you to consider adding a/more midi dresses to your ever so fabulous fashion fold.

You’d agree with me that Victoria Beckham is the queen of swoon worthy midi dresses. When that gal made her designing debut, I was one of those that said and I quote, “I'll not be wearing the brand". But hey, the gal has made her mark. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think she is now a fixture at NYFW. I eat my words, hehe.

Victoria has a penchant to make stand out pieces out of conventional dresses. She is a force to reckon with in the fashion world but however amazing her designs are, I still can’t justify the very steep prices especially for being a new kid on the block, arguably.

Here are a few reasons the midi dress may be your perfect style solution to transition into Fall always:
This length is ultra flattering and dressed up or dressed down, will take you from day to evening effortlessly.

If you’re wanting a little bit more coverage, look no more. A midi dress has you covered especially with the crisp temps at this time of the year.

If modesty is high on your list, the midi dress has you covered.

A midi dress will have you looking effortlessly styled and very confident in your overall appearance.

Midi length dresses/skirts are fast becoming my new favorite style. It was love at first sight with this dress in a bright color and a lovely top to bottom zipper detail in the back. I kept my look very classic and simple. This dress fit very very snug and while I shot it, I kept thinking 'boy I should have styled an outfit with a very generous silhouette instead'. One that would be forgiving and hide all my sins aka ferocious consumption of anything and everything food in the past one month, hehe.

Regardless, this dress needed to stay the star of the look so I threw in a simple blazer, a bag in a muted color and classic yellow pumps to complete the look.

What are your thoughts on this look?

Hello style lovers, welcome to another post. How was your week? Fabulous? Yes!! Mine? A good mix of happy and sad. Happy because I celebrated my twins’ birthday on Tuesday the 6th and sad because my partner teacher, a great friend of mine passed away. That was the breaking news on Monday morning the 5th of October. My principal and vice principal walked into my classroom about 7:30am both wearing long faces and I was like uh oh, I must be in trouble. They broke the news and it felt like the walls caved in. All three of us sat on the rug and I sobbed my heart out.

When I got myself together, I went down my contacts list and called or texted everyone that knew him directly or indirectly and told them the news in hopes that someone would say ‘well that’s not true, I just saw him, or I’m here with him or that was a bad joke they played on you, he is ok. No luck, the reaction was the same with each conversation, text message and voice mail. It was either (and I read this off of my phone) 'Wow, what a loss’, ‘You are kidding right’, 'You are lying, OMG', 'No way!!!!!!’, ‘So sorry for your loss’, that must be hard, are you ok?, ‘Unbelievable’, ‘He was so full of life’, 'He was a great teacher’ etc. Really guys, no one was going to say the words I hoped to hear. Bummer. Bummer. Life sucks sometimes. All I could utter was 'it’s so surreal'. Words failed me time and time again and my response stayed the same, 'its so surreal. I must have said that at least a million times. It still is so surreal.
Great support from the school district sending out substitute teachers to relieve the kinder team that day and all week as back up for whenever we felt like we needed to step away to breathe, talk, cry or do whatever. Councillors have been on site all week as well.

Gary was different things to different people, to me he was great friend, my confidant, my prayer buddy, a selfless friend, a good man and an amazing colleague. My heart bleeds. A gentle giant that gave his all to everything/everybody. Jeez God must have needed an extra angel.

Gary Golden, you will be missed forever. This post is for you. Not sure if I'll be able to speak at your funeral on Tuesday the 13th cos I'll be a wreck.  But I thank the Lord for the opportunity to know and work with you.
Rest in Peace.

My wonderful principal, my amazing colleagues, so glad we have each other to lean on as we try to make sense of this craziness. Juaneta you are a rock and a blessing, love you always girl! What a week! I've turned to food and candy for comfort. What comfort foods do you turn to when challenges hit?

On the style diary, it's another Fab on a Dime look. You know what’s funny? Last year when this lip print dress in a beautiful shade of pink from the Alice McCall RTW collection hit the runways of Australia SS 14/15 fashion week here, I was one of those that ooh’d and aah’d, drooled and couldn't get enough of it. Hard as I tried and believe me I did, I couldn’t resist it so as you can imagine I snagged one and added it to my arsenal as soon as it hit stores. Oh to be a fashionista, nothing passes you by!!!

I wore it to an event in San Diego last summer and everyone loved it. I was totally shocked to see it at Shein, and thought it'd be great for another installment of fabulous on a dime and to promote breast cancer awareness this October. After all even though it's officially Fall, Summer weather persists in my lil corner of the planet. And that Summer sunlight hit and lit me all the way up as you can see, hehe. I paired the dress with pink bow shoes, a pink bag and a blazer to ward off the mild Fall chill direct heat of the sun on my skin.
