"The more you celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate" - Oprah Winfrey

What would you wear to another fun night of celebration?
I’ve had a thing for gowns with a train lately, for a gown is nothing without a train. So in response to that question, I’d wear and I wore a structured gown with a deep V neck and cascading ruffles leading up to a train. Oh the fun I had dressed in this not so basic black gown.

As you can see I’m still celebrating, for as long as the calendar says March like I stated here and here.  One more week and my head will be out of the clouds. Until then, I'll just keep eating cake.

The countdown is on for Spring Break and I’m totally juiced. Good times are about to roll in, <dancing emoji>.

How was your week? Thanks for all the get well wishes from my last post. I still can’t shake this flu, but had to go back to work cos I’m a darn good worker bee, hehe.

Something weird happened on Saturday. A phone exchange. My phone rings and I pick up. It was a gal on the other end.

Her: Hello my name is blah blah and I’ll love to have your address so I can send you an invite to my wedding.
Me: (taken aback) Do I know you?
Her: No you don’t know me but I know you and want to invite you.
Me: Um, hmm, how did you get my number?
Her: I had been asking around and finally someone gave it to me.
Me: Oh ok, who did?
Her: I can’t tell but I’d love it if you'd attend. The service will be at blah blah and reception at blah blah.
Me: Still trying to find my voice, but I don’t know you and it'd be awkward. Are you on FB?
Her: No
Me: Do you follow me on Instagram?
Her: No, but I'd really love to have you there.

<<SILENCE>>

Me: When is your wedding?
Her: On Saturday the — of —.
Me: Sorry but I’ll out of town that weekend.
Her: OH NOOO!!!! Ok. Maybe next time them. Thank you, bye.

What would you do?
And what are your thoughts on this fun black gown? Yay or nay?

Not So Basic Black

"Screw Labor Day and Memorial Day, wear white whenever and however you like".
After all it’s that time of the year when the sun teases us into thinking it’s Summer even though the temps say otherwise. Through all that sunshine the rain has also been coming down like we are in the middle of the Amazon somewhere.

Capes are not just for superheroes anymore. Infact they're hugely present in vintage fashion and have gone mainstream fashion popping up everywhere. I don’t know of a lot of gals that don’t own at least one cape dress. They add interest to a look. This lil cape of mine added an oomph to an otherwise simple and straight cut jumpsuit while maintaining a clean, minimal silhouette - understated elegance, totally!

I’ve been down with a cold. One of the downsides of working with kids. One kid gets a cold and we all get it, all it takes is one sneeze. I probably sound like a broken record reminding the kiddos to sneeze into the bend of their elbows. So I've been home nursing a cold that has every symptom in the book, coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, stuffy nose.

Didn’t I mention here that March is burnout month for educators? Yes, we all are getting cross-eyed testing kids, inputting test scores in the system and working on second trimester report cards. That was my week. Long and hard. I’m taking it all in stride, it’s still March and I’m still so unabashedly excited and celebrating my entire birth month, :)). #NotLettingAnythingBurstMyBubble.
I hope your week was way better than mine.

Seen the movie Zootopia yet? I saw it 3D and I loved every minute. Many lessons learned too. I won’t spoil it for you, just go see it.

Today I’m showing another birthday look wearing a jumpsuit and cape designed for me by Zoearku. I paired it with an amazing statement necklace from Takai By Angela, studded pink and gold heels (my favorite of all the shoes I own) that unfortunately didn’t really show and a pink clutch. What's not to love, :))).

My last post was so lengthy and I applaud you for reading. I’m keeping this very short and sweet, ;).

Your thoughts?

Understated Elegance

Saturday, February 27, 2016

As you read this post, I’ll be out of town on a nice lil trip in celebration of ‘wait for it’, wait for it - MY BIRTHDAY! It rolls around in 3 short days on Tuesday the 1st of March and I am beside myself with excitement. For no reason whatsoever I love to announce my birthday to any and everyone that cares (or doesn’t care for that matter) to know. Just compliment my look on the 1st of March and you’ll hear, “thanks, it’s my birthday today” of course with a solid grin spread across my face. Honestly, a kid in a candy store doesn’t even begin to describe me on my birthday - HILARIOUS! I also tend to celebrate all month long. Don’t ask me why cos ‘thats just da way it iiiiz (in my Tupac voice) hehe.

I love the simplistic yet chic effect of an all white look. While screaming summer, it also makes a stylish late winter ensemble. Also a great inspiration for Spring /Summer that’s just around the corner. This crisp tailored pants paired with a mock ribbed turtle neck top look is a repeat offender styled previously here. This time I accented it with a clear lucite bag, goat hair collar, an orange coat off and on and a pair of green sling backs.

I love the versatility of this clear lucite bag in terms of being able to switch out the colored inner pouches to match my getup or heck leaving it clear with the contents in full view like I did here.

I carry big bags cos I haul a lot of things. This mini however fits only very few little items at a time and in most cases those would be lipstick and keys. This time it was just my phone. Gosh I have such a love hate relationship with the size of the iPhone 6plus.

What’s in your bag?

What's in your Bag

Saturday, February 6, 2016

Hi readers, how was your week? Mine totally put the 'b' in busy. It was the 100th day of school on Tuesday. Groundhog day too. So it was unending activities and boy do I feel like I was run over by a truck. And then there's Valentine's day and Presidents day coming up next week. Life of a teacher.

But I'm glad you are here, welcome back!

I did mention here that I'd start 'Work Flow' a new series that'd show my work looks in response to messages I receive on my Facebook page. I thought I'd share the first work look in a few weeks but following a few compliments on this look on Wednesday, I thought, 'why not now'. I got home from work, touched up my face, popped the lashes on and clicked away.

It’s still all about layering at this time of year. How about a skirt over look? To work on Wednesday I wore a layered poncho, waist pants and a skirt over. Ponchos are hugely popular at this time of the year and this one gets bonus points for being layered and super cute.

I personally love skirts over dresses but today I’m showing how I styled it over pants. This trend is far from new but influencers all over are taking it from runway to street. If you’re just getting your feet wet with this trend, then skinny pants are the safe way to go since you get the leggings vibe with it.

I love love waist pants for their ability to hide love handles and any bulges at all. Another very valid  reason I love them is the lengthening factor. So if legs for miles is your thing, you must be loving up on them too. Ugh, how could I forget the flat abs without going under the knife?

There are a plethora of ways to style these pants but I chose to do it with a ribbed turtleneck tucked in so the zipper detail on pants was in view. Gotta show off that cinched waist right? How do you style yours?

Want to give your layering skills a new lease? Throw on a skirt over your pants or dresses and look totally too cool for school. I did, literally. Your thoughts?
